Gubałówka Funicular
PKL's Gubałówka funicular in Zakopane climbs 1,301 metres in 3.5 minutes from the lower station to the ridge above town. The operator's FAQ puts the same ride at about 3 minutes in a glazed car. From the top, PKL describes a walk of about 40 minutes along the ridge toward Butorowy Wierch, and telescopes aimed at the Tatras.
1,301 metres to the ridge
The Gubałówka funicular is PKL's line from its lower station in Zakopane to the ridge above the town. The live status table prints a length of 1,301 metres and an uphill time of 3.5 minutes. The FAQ describes the same trip as usually about 3 minutes, in a glazed car, so you can watch the slope and take photographs on the way up.
The railway is one listing among several on the same board. Butorowy Wierch is a chairlift of 1,619 metres with an uphill time of 18 minutes. The Gubałówka slide is listed at 700 metres. Tubing is listed at 100 metres. The Polana Gubałówka ski tow and the upper-meadow ski run are each listed at 300 metres, and so is the snow park. Those are separate from the funicular car. A walk on the ridge does not depend on them.
What PKL puts on the ridge
The summer FAQ treats the top as a place to look at the Tatras through telescopes, and it calls the sunbeds there the highest beach in Poland. It also lists rented sports equipment and volleyball. For older children it describes an alpine slide that stays open through the summer. For younger children it points to an about-40-minute walk along the Gubałówka ridge toward Butorowy Wierch. A combined ticket, the same answer says, lets the Butorowy railway bring you down into the centre of Kościelisko.
In winter the FAQ shifts to training on the hill and names sports clubs of at least 20 people as the group it has in mind. The view the railway is built for does not change with the season. The slide, the tubing run and the ski tow are separate listings from the funicular, which is why a clear day on the ridge is still the point of the 3.5-minute climb when those extras are shut.
The car and the stations
The lower station is the Zakopane end of the 1,301-metre line. The upper station is where the ridge walk starts, toward Butorowy Wierch, and where the telescopes sit. PKL's summer note treats that walk as part of a family visit. The snow park on the same status board is listed under the name SNOWPARK GOOBAYA.
The glazed cabin is the whole journey: a few minutes of slope, then the ridge. What you add after that is the telescopes, the sunbeds when the season matches the FAQ, or the path toward Butorowy Wierch. The other listings on the board, from the 700-metre slide to the 100-metre tubing run, are optional extras with their own status, not stages of the funicular ride. PKL lists the ski tow as Wyciąg Narciarski Polana Gubałówka and the meadow piste as Trasa Narciarska Górna Polana.
FAQ
Can a wheelchair user ride the Gubałówka funicular?
Yes. PKL says the funicular is adapted to carry wheelchair users, and staff help at check-in on both the lower and the upper platform. The same answer says there is no reduced fare for disabled passengers, so the ticket is a normal one. A guide dog is not charged the dog fee.
How do I get to the lower station?
Customer service for the lower station is at Na Gubałówkę 4, 34-500 Zakopane. The PKL pages do not name a bus line or a walking time. If you walk up, a one-way ticket down is sold at the upper station.
How often does the funicular run?
On a busy day it runs without a pause, and 10 people in a car are enough for it to depart. With fewer visitors, PKL says the car goes about every 15 minutes. On some days tickets stop as much as an hour before closing when there are no seats left.
Which children travel free?
The tariff says children up to 4 (it also prints 'born after 1 January 2022') ride free on a guardian's ticket, and the age has to be shown with a valid document. There is no fee for a pram. Reduced fares on the price list cover ages 5–26 and 65+, with a document.
Can I take a dog?
On the Gubałówka funicular, yes: leash and muzzle, and a dog ticket. The Butorowy Wierch railway does not allow pets.
